Intermediates - Ages 10-12 Years
Where dancers begin to find their own style
The Intermediate years are a significant milestone in a dancer's journey.
By this stage, students have developed strong foundations in technique, classroom etiquette and performance skills. They arrive at class with greater confidence, increased independence and a growing understanding of what it means to be a dancer.
As training becomes more advanced, students begin exploring movement with greater artistry and intention. They are encouraged to think beyond simply learning steps and start developing their own performance quality, expression and individuality.
For many dancers, these years are where their passion for dance truly begins to flourish.
Our Classes For Intermediates
Jazz
Jazz classes focus on energy, performance quality and technical development.
Students work on kicks, turns, jumps, flexibility and musicality while learning dynamic choreography that challenges both their technique and confidence. Jazz encourages dancers to develop their stage presence while continuing to build strength and coordination.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop allows students to explore a different style of movement while developing confidence, musicality and self-expression.
Classes are energetic, engaging and designed to encourage creativity while improving rhythm, coordination and performance skills.
Ballet
Ballet remains a vital part of every dancer’s training.
Students continue developing posture, alignment, balance, flexibility and strength while learning more complex exercises and combinations. Ballet helps dancers build discipline, control and technical understanding that supports every other genre they study.
As dancers progress, they continue working towards examination pathways and advanced ballet training.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics continues to build strength, flexibility and body awareness through progressive skill development.
Students work towards more advanced acrobatic skills while maintaining a strong focus on safety and technique. Acro supports overall dance training by improving strength, flexibility and confidence in movement.
A Time of Growth and Development
The transition into Intermediates brings exciting new challenges and opportunities.
Students are physically stronger, more coordinated and capable of learning increasingly complex movements and choreography. As a result, classes place greater emphasis on technical precision, strength, flexibility and performance quality.
Dancers are encouraged to challenge themselves, set goals and embrace the learning process while continuing to enjoy the friendships and sense of community that make dance such a rewarding experience.
Whether a student attends one class each week or participates in multiple styles, every dancer is supported to achieve their personal best.
Not sure which class is right for your child? Contact us and our team will help you find the perfect fit.
Tap
Tap develops rhythm, timing and musical awareness.
Students learn increasingly complex rhythms and combinations while improving coordination, listening skills and confidence. Tap challenges dancers to think musically while developing precision and control.
Contemporary
Contemporary is introduced as students begin developing the maturity and technical foundations required for this expressive style.
Combining elements of ballet, lyrical and modern movement, contemporary encourages dancers to explore storytelling, emotion and creativity through movement. Students learn how to connect technique with artistry while developing greater body awareness and versatility.
Our Intermediate Timetable
Developing the Complete Dancer
During the Intermediate years, students begin to understand that dance is about more than learning routines.
They learn how to apply corrections, work independently, support their teammates and take responsibility for their progress. Teachers encourage students to become active participants in their learning, helping them develop the mindset needed for continued growth.
Through regular training, dancers develop:
• Strong technical foundations
• Increased flexibility and strength
• Performance confidence
• Musicality and artistry
• Resilience and perseverance
• Discipline and commitment
• Leadership and teamwork skills
These qualities help prepare students not only for future dance training but for challenges beyond the studio as well.
Examinations and Goal Setting
For many Intermediate students, examinations become an important part of their development.
Exams provide clear goals, valuable feedback and a sense of achievement that motivates dancers to continue progressing. Through preparation and performance, students learn the importance of dedication, consistency and attention to detail.
Participation in examinations remains a personal choice, but for many students it becomes a rewarding opportunity to celebrate their growth and accomplishments.
Performance Opportunities
Intermediate dancers have a variety of opportunities to perform throughout the year, including our annual concert and Performance Team pathways.
These experiences help students build confidence, stage presence and teamwork while creating lasting memories with their fellow dancers.
For many students, performing becomes one of the most rewarding parts of their dance journey, allowing them to showcase the skills and confidence they have worked so hard to develop in class.
Preparing for Senior School
The Intermediate program serves as the bridge into our senior levels.
As dancers approach the next stage of their training, they are encouraged to take greater ownership of their goals, embrace new challenges and continue refining their technique and artistry.
By the end of this stage, students are not only stronger dancers, but more confident young people who understand the value of commitment, perseverance and hard work.

STEP 2
Let's get your parent portal set up!
You can set up all of your child's classes and get your invoices all sorted. If your child's classes aren't already in your portal you can search and find your preferred classes in the class section of the app. Weekly direct debit payments are taken out on Thursdays the week before your classes. To enrol in auto pay you will need to go to the more section of your app and then click into auto-pay and fill in your preferred card details.
You will have your $50 registration fee in your portal that will be charged on the first Thursday of your direct debit.
Do I need to enrol for each class separately?
Yes. Each class must be enrolled.
This keeps class numbers accurate and ensures we staff classes correctly.
I have more than one child. Can I enrol them together?
You can add multiple children under the same Parent Portal, but:
Each child must be enrolled separately
Each class must be checked out separately
Are classes capped?

How are fees paid?
From 2026, BPA Dance Studio fees are paid by weekly automated direct debit only.
Why weekly direct debit?
Weekly payments help:
Avoid large invoices
Keep accounts up to date automatically
Reduce missed payments and manual follow-ups
Keep payments smaller and easier to manage
Can I pay another way (cash, bank transfer, term invoices)?
No. Weekly direct debit is the only payment method.
What happens if a payment fails?
You will receive an automatic notification. Please update your details as soon as possible.
If missed payments are not resolved, this may lead to late fees and/or a pause on class attendance until the account is up to date.
Will we be charged on public holidays?
The studio will be closed and class will not run on public holidays so families will not be charged for any public holidays in that same direct debit week.
Do we need to purchase uniform and shoes?
Students must wear the Ready Set Dance uniform. However, we need to make sure we are the right fit for you and your child before committing to anything. Comfortable clothes and sneakers are fine for the first couple of lessons. Once your child has settled you can purchase the official Ready Set Dance uniform at reception which we are sure you will love.
Is uniform required?
Yes. All students must wear the official BPA uniform for their class style
Where do we purchase uniforms?
Uniforms are purchased through the studio. We offer:
Sizing help during office hours
Special uniform weeks (announced ahead of time)
Are costumes included in fees?
No. Costumes are charged separately.
Costume information and due dates are provided well in advance so families have time to plan.

What happens if I miss classes due to injury, illness, or surgery?
Injury & Extended Absence Policy
If you are unable to attend classes for an extended period (4 or more consecutive weeks) due to sickness, injury, or surgery, you may be eligible for special consideration.
To apply, you must:
Provide written notice outlining your situation
Submit a valid medical certificate covering the full period of absence
Notify us at the time of the incident to be considered for a possible fee waiver
Requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
What if my child is injured or unwell?
Please tell the teacher (or notify the office) before class.
Student safety comes first. We will modify activity where needed, or recommend rest if appropriate.
If unwell, stay home and contact us.If we miss a class can it be made up on another day of the week?
You may swap days during Terms 1, 2 and 3 if you miss a class (as long as the make up class is not full). In term 4, each class works on a different routine for the end-of-year concert, and it is too confusing for students to be swapping days. We do recommend that you avoid alternating days too much as preschoolers need the comfort of knowing that the same teacher and their friends will be there when they go to dancing.
What happens if my child misses a class?
We understand things come up. However, missed classes are not refundable and cannot be transferred to another student or term.
Do you offer make-up classes?
Make-up classes are not guaranteed. If available, they depend on:
Class capacity
Age and level suitability
Timing within the term
What happens with unforeseen weather conditions/Public Holidays?
We will notify parents of any studio closures due to wild weather conditions or any public holidays where we will not be open in advance.
-
How will I receive studio updates?
We communicate through:
Email
Parent Portal notifications
Studio social media (reminders only)
Please keep your contact details up to date in your Parent Portal to avoid missing important info.
Who do I contact with questions?
For enrolments, fees, uniforms, timetables, or general admin, please contact the studio office.
Teachers cannot discuss admin matters before or after class because they are supervising students and preparing for lessons.
-
Behaviour expectations
We expect all students to show:
Respect
Kindness
Teamwork
If behaviour becomes unsafe or repeatedly disruptive, we may contact a parent and, if needed, remove the student from class to maintain a safe learning environment
Can I watch my child’s classes?
In our experience preschoolers are able to concentrate better without the distraction of other noise in the room from parents and other siblings. Our program has been endorsed by leading child care experts who support the independent learning model. As preschoolers participate in classes they have the opportunity to develop additional secure attachments with adults (teachers) and peers. This helps them transition positively into the larger world and helps with school readiness.
Having said that, a lot of children are timid at first and need to know that a parent is close by. Our program allows parents to watch the first class if necessary to help them adjust.
Can parents watch classes?
We run scheduled Watch Weeks during the year. Outside of these weeks, classes are closed to:
Reduce distraction
Support student focus and confidence
Keep classes running smoothly
What is watching day?
Watching day is where parents get to view their child dance as an audience in the classroom. It’s a chance for your child to begin their first step to working on their performance skills.
What about hair and shoes?
Requirements vary by style and level. Full details are provided after enrolment so you know exactly what to buy and how to wear it for class.
-
Do all students participate in concerts?
Our end-of-year concert is a key part of the BPA experience and is strongly encouraged for all students.
Are concerts compulsory?
Not compulsory, but highly encouraged.
Classwork and choreography are taught with performance in mind, so students get the most out of the year by participating.
Do students do exams?
Exams may be offered for selected styles and levels.
Exams are usually optional
Some programs or levels may require exams and we will clearly advise you if that applies
What are the pre-requisites for competition team?
Students from 6 years and up are offered the opportunity to perform as a member of our eisteddfod team. Competition Team is an extension program offered to those who excel and participate in a minimum of 4 genres (for 6-11years) and a minimum of 6 classes (12 years and up) must be participated in per week with 2 of theses classes being ballet. The Performance Team participates in various dance competitions/eisteddfods, community events and charity events. Performance team is for those students who demonstrate a high level of commitment, skills, and dedication to their dance studies. This program is developed for students who wish to live and breathe dance and build the important skills of performing. Each performance builds confidence, performance skills, stage presence, team work and a determination to succeed.
-
Are your teacher’s qualified?
All teachers have their Working with Children Check (or equivalent) and follow the program that is endorsed by early learning experts. Ready Set Dance teachers are required to gain their certification from Ready Set Dance head office before delivering the program.

Ready Set Dance airs on Nick Jr and Paramount Plus. You can also catch us on YouTube and the Nick Jr Play App. The Show has been so popular that it is now airing in 120 countries all over the world.
